Position Summary:

The Housing Counselor is primarily responsible for the coordination, promotion, and execution of economic education and coaching for our people served.  The Housing Counselor responds to inquiries and referrals. The Housing Counselor possesses an understanding of both the cyclical and generational nature of poverty, as well as the systemic roots.  The focus of the Housing Counselor is to provide a catalyst through education, coaching, empowerment, and home preservation that breaks traditional cycles of poverty.   The Housing Counselor values housing as a human right and affirmatively promotes and works to preserve homeownership among the traditionally underserved people whom CENTRO serves.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Organize and conduct Financial Empowerment classes in English and Spanish
  • Organize and conduct First Time Home Buyer classes in English and Spanish
  • Coach people on one toward their short-term and long-term goals.  Progress people toward the next step of education or application process.
  • Complete paperwork and submit data as needed
  • Research and analyze data for reporting

  • Proficient in the use of various PC and mobile applications such as Microsoft Office

Education & Experience:

  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • HUD Certified Counselor
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Experience in community engagement. 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to be physically mobile (stand, walk, reach, climb, bend) and also the ability to sit for prolonged periods throughout the day/work hours
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, copier, telephone, and the ability to write/type
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds occasionally
  • Able to attend meetings and conferences virtually.
