The Shop Assistant –will assist the coordinator and the cohorts of apprentices of Re-building Futures. The Shop Assistant will help to ensure that apprentices become proficient with the established set of skills presented in their 10-week program. The Shop Assistant will help as needed both in the preparation and execution of the program. In addition, this person is responsible for meeting, demonstrating, and enforcing all of Re-building Futures safety protocols and procedures when needed. They will report to the Program Coordinator and become a valued member of this important Social Enterprise.

Duties & Responsibilities:

· Model and enforce all safety procedures inside and outside of the shop

· Assist the program coordinator with tasks

· Help recruit apprentices, and maintain relationships with them

· Maintain relationships with potential employers

· Maintain relationships with MassHire and other Community Stake Holders

· Help create a healthy Re-building futures brand and culture

Qualifications & Skills:

• Excellent interpersonal and people skills
• Comfortable learning about processing equipment to facilitate efficient operation, troubleshooting, and repairs.
• Demonstrated artistic ability, or familiarity with cabinet making and furniture refurbishing process.
• Familiarity with shop tools, equipment and machinery
• Bi-lingual is a must!

Education & Experience:

• High School diploma or equivalent certificate

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of standing up and working on production
• Ability to lift 45 lb.
